Illustrated portrait of Ernest Carr

I’m Ernest Carr, a software engineer with a long-running interest in building reliable, fast systems and understanding what happens beneath the abstractions.

My professional work has included ERP systems, high-frequency trading platforms, sports data and betting analysis, and copy-trading systems. I work across Java, Go, Python, C#, C++, and Node.js, with a particular interest in distributed systems, caching, persistence, messaging, and low-latency engineering.

These days I work independently. This site is not a conventional portfolio. It is a place to document what I’m learning, what I’m building, and the ideas I want to keep around.

How I like to work

Start from the constraints. Measure before optimizing. Keep systems understandable. Prefer boring infrastructure when it is the right tool. And write down the lessons that are expensive to learn twice.
